Cultural values influence the way we interact with other people, how we conduct work, our behavior and style, our use of language, how we solve challenges, problems, and conflicts, how we negotiate and how we go about creating relationships. Cultural values actually make you who you are and people want to relate with you or work with you because of who you are ( your attitude, behaviors and skills).

Now as the world is becoming one village and cultural interactions increasingly growing, the necessity of cultural agility is indisputable especially for young professionals aspiring to grow their careers in international organisations.

With globalization the ability to work across cultures and effectively relate with coworkers and managers from diverse cultural backgrounds is becoming one of the key skills 21st century business executives are looking for. Unfortunately not many schools in Rwanda train their students in multiculturalism topics nor give them intercultural experiences to prepare them for the current job market which is significantly dominated by  jobs that require intercultural skills. This poses a big challenge to young professionals who want to climb their career ladder in international organisations which most of them are driven by values completely different from general Rwandan cultural values orientations.

Program Objectives

At the completion of this program  participants will
  • Understand and appreciate their cultural values orientations and apply acquired professional skills to adapt to the international workplace culture.
  • Have the  ability to listen, communicate, understand, and respond adequately across cultures.
  • confidently interact with high level professionals from diverse cultural backgrounds.
This six week cultural values and career training program will equip participants with intercultural skills  to function and thrive in multicultural environments. This  will be a venue to discuss cultural values orientation, how they shape the way people interact with people and work. The training will also explain how cultural behaviors are interpreted by people from different cultural values orientations and the impact this might have on work relationship and performance.  Every week participants will be discussing two cultural values orientations and learn two professional skills which are related to the cultural values that might work against them in international workplace settings.
