Kinyarwanda Book for Expats
Language as a means to communicate needs, values, beliefs, customs and feelings has a vital role in cultural adaptation. There are a lot of cultural concepts that you will never understand until you learn the language that express those cultural concepts.
This book covers 7 competencies (greetings and introducing yourself, talking about family, saying your daily activities, buying and bargaining at the market, asking and giving directions, requesting a service and story telling) which we believe are foundational to conversational Kinyarwanda. Beyond giving you the expression to communicate with locals, the content in the book is also a great foundation to a smooth cultural adaptation process in Rwanda.
This is book has two levels ( beginner and intermediate). The beginner level covers the first four competencies which can be completed in 90 hours or less depending on the speed of the student. The intermediate level covers the last three competencies that can be completed in 40 hours or less also depending on the speed of the student. To make the learning more interactive the book contains grammar contents, 20 dialogs, explained new words and exercises for all the 7 competencies. The last part of the book has a list of 150 phrases that we believe are very important for expats to know in their first few months in Rwanda.
